Finding a Call Center Job

Find a job as a call center agent if you enjoy working on the telephone to receive orders, handle customer complaints and offer troubleshooting advice. Call center jobs are plentiful now because of the growing trend in business to use outsourcing procedures to accomplish certain aspects of work. To begin your search, evaluate your aptitude for the job.

Assess your interests

A job as a call center agent requires you to use a professional and polite manner on the phone that encourages people to talk to you. Record keeping is part of the job as well, because there are orders or application forms that you need to complete. You can expect a demanding schedule, because you need to complete as many calls as possible during a work shift. Filling in a call log of the day’s activity is the last job that you do in a day.

Formal education is not a requirement

You need to know how to practice customer service methods and have good skills on a computer keyboard. It is helpful to have experience in customer service, but it is not necessary if you have a pleasing manner and good communication skills. Formal education does not teach you how to pay attention to detail or how to use judgment in assessing situations that need solving. You learn those things on the job.

Using newspapers, online job service sites and other resources, search for companies that are hiring call center agents. Use your research ability to find which job offers the best training and the top pay level for your abilities. Consider the options carefully and balance what they offer against what you want, and then you are ready to make a decision.
