Due to the increasingly expensive cost of doing business in the United States, which is not expected to lessen any time soon, many companies are outsourcing their customer service to offshore call centers in order to save money. There are several challenges to successfully outsourcing customer service to an offshore call center.

Many offshore call centers are located in India and other parts of Asia. India is a popular choice because of its large English-speaking population, the result of a large British colonial presence there until the 1940s. Additionally, labor costs in these regions are very low and correlate with the lower cost of living in the area; the least expensive place to live in the United States costs more than most places in Asia. Many American companies have also outsourced their calls to Canada and Jamaica. Several companies specialize in finding offshore call centers for American corporations.
Other benefits of offshore call centers
In addition to lower labor costs there are other advantages to using offshore call centers. The labor pools are reliable, knowledgeable and educated with a low attrition rate. In addition, many of these call centers also offer the same or greater level of data security and up-to-date technology as American ones.
With high unemployment and an uncertain economic future, outsourcing is a controversial issue, but the outsourcing of corporate call centers to offshore ones is sure to remain a reality for years to come due to the benefits to companies here and workers in other countries.
